Reed Adkins Murder at Snake Cove

I have always been a sucker for a solid western and I recently picked up a William W. Johnston western. I love the straight as an arrow storytelling with tough cowboys trying to mind their own business when those damn outlaws rear their heads. Our heroes cannot stand by and let the outlaws win, they have to take action. I am sure westerns do not sell like they do but damn I love to read a good one.

I am still writing a little, been really busy with the remodeling of the house. Finished the first chapter of Duke Samson the other day, so I am progressing.

Rock Johnson and the Cult of the Duce

Writing update:

Enigma Tome has been with the editor and she reported back the "story is good" after reading it through and is now in the process of editing the story.

Duke Samson When Blood Falls

Ok here it is folks, THIS is my favorite cover of all time. Our hero Duke tramples across the American wasteland saving a child from the horrors. I mean look at Duke! Look at the determination in his face! That guy will fuck up your day with a vengeance if you get in his way or hurt those he cares about.

Rock Johnson & the Zimmerman Protocol

One commenter on my covers last week mentioned the Zimmerman Telegraph, an amazing little bit of history that could have completely changed the history of the world as being a great idea for pulp adventure. Unfortunately, the Zimmerman Telegraph happened during WW1 and Rock is hanging out battling the Nazi scum three decades later. BUT who is to say good ol' Adolph did not reach out a hand to Mexico, perhaps before he made the fateful decision to sink two Mexican oil tankers. I sort of feel like Rock could easily have had a hand in ensuring the Mexican President Manuel Ávila Camacho came to the conclusion to join the allies.

On another note...Damn! I need to write these, eh?

Duke Samson is Born of Vengeance

Dammit, I am really enjoying making these covers a little too much. Maybe I can hire a ghost writer to write all these so I can read them?

Guess I need to focus and stop making covers and put 'pen to paper' eh?

Rock Johnson: Enigma Tome is complete!

Ok, to the average person this may not be that big a deal but for those that know me, they will understand. Last night I completed The Enigma Tome and quite frankly it is a miracle. I am notoriously a starter of projects but never a finisher. So completing this is a Big Deal© for me. Today I sent the document off to my friend Ivy to give it a once over and I have a couple of friends who offered to do a read and edit of what is probably a little of a mishmash of silliness. Hopefully it is not too stupid and is readable.

As for plans, I am likely going to 'release' this here on the blog for all those 'faithful readers' that bother to check out my blog. As this is sort of a niche reading genre - I do not see a lot of Men's Adventure novels coming out these days - I suspect the overlap from gaming people that visit this blog and readership is probably limited, but I hope a few people would read it and give me a little feedback like "For the love of God, never write again" to "Not too bad for a first go" to "Hey, I love it, write more" or something like that. From there I may put on Amazon and see what happens, I may make enough to buy a Coke, though with inflation these days, that might take a year or two.

Introducing Duke Samson!

We have been doing extensive remodeling here at the casa and I have not written as much as I would like, too much going on to focus on my iPad. I have been writing a little and closing in on the end of the first Rock Johnson tale, but also reading quite a bit and I had another idea:

What if we took the men's adventure aesthetic/theme/genre (or whatever you want to call it) and set the story in a post-apoc, the world has fallen scenario? Toss in a tough as nails, veteran and now a survivalist, hero in there? Trained in warfare, survival, and hunting and let him loose upon the unsuspecting world.

Sounds like a damn good time! Bill suggested Duke Samson as our hero's name. I thought at first this was a little over the top, but then figured, why not?

Simply "Duke" to the soldiers that adored him, served in wars, lead soldiers, and then retired after he rubbed a powerful politician the wrong way and disappeared into the mountains of his native Tennessee. Set a few years after the world came crashing down and society collapsed. Now the man just wanting to be left alone has been pushed to far! Nothing will stop The Duke when vengeance is on his mind!

I am thinking the presence of The Duke, with the impressive frame of Helmsworth, and the undeniable fighting skills and tenacity of John Wick stalking around a fallen world in search of those who wronged him.

And frankly, that sounds fucking awesome! Covers coming soon!

Ok seriously, this might be my favorite one yet.

Rock Johnson & the Sheik of Baghdad

Fighting for the American way of justice and freedom in the desert oasis of Baghdad! Sounds like a good time.

Rock Johnson & the Law of the Jungle

Yeah, at this point I am having way too too much fun making these covers and coming up with wild story ideas to fit the covers. Perhaps here Rock, in search of an ancient Mayan temple in the Yucatán Peninsula (which I have visited and is fantastic) and gets caught up in the earliest beginnings of the Mexican drug cartels? We shall see...

Rock Johnson & the Alpine Fortress

Continuing my imaginary pulp novel series, we come to book 3, chronicling the further adventures of our hero, Rock Johnson. The recovery of the Enigma Tome allowed codemasters at the OSS to uncover the location of the secret Reich base hidden high in the German Alps. Something mysterious is occurring here and it appears Hitler's Nazi scientists are readying a devastating invention that could sway the balance of the war! Rock has only a little time to pull a team together and head for the deadly mountain range. The Nazis are getting ready to celebrate and Rock aims to crash the party...

UPDATE ON WORDCOUNT:
I am currently sitting right around 4200 words on the Enigma Tome, so progressing at a good pace. I am right at the start of what I consider to be the final action scene (probably have a short 'wrap up' scene at the very end to close out the short story). Aim for total wordcount to be somewhere around 6-7k.

Rock Johnson & the Black Dog Caliphate

My buddy James George just released another product for their Barons of Braunstein series, Chronicles II: The Black Dog Caliphate. I got my hands on a copy, printed it out and read through it, absolutely fantastic, and on par with all of James & Robyn's work. I could totally see running this unique adventure for a group of friends. In honor of the release, I decided The Black Dog Caliphate made a smashingly good title for another imaginary pulp adventure for our hero Rock Johnson. Now, I wish someone would get off their butt and write these adventures so I could read them!

Be sure to check out James and Robyn's latest adventure:

Rock Johnson & the Enigma Tome

I have been playing around with writing (probably never do it, but hey, fun to dream!) and I got the idea to make a paperback book cover to get a feel for the theme and the main character. I played around for a bit in MidJourney and ended up with this image of a heroic adventurer atop a submerging Nazi submarine. Looks fun!
